A 72-Year Old Man Who Survived Hyena Attack in 2020 Killed by Elephant in 2023

Human-wildlife conflict throws a whole village in Makueni County into sombre mood a few hours ago, after a 72-year old man who survived a hyena attack three years ago succumbs to an attack by a marauding elephant.

The man, identified as Mzee Musili Musembi got unexpected Elephant attack while walking to his home based in Ilikoni village in Kibwezi East Constituency on the night of Wednesday 1st March 2023.

Speaking to the media, witnesses revealed that their efforts to help rescue the deceased by sending an alarm to awaken the whole village, proved futile.

The said elephant mercilessly continued to find every possible angle to let the man breath his last breath and so it eventually managed.

However, it was crystal clear that residents of Ilikoni village were angry with the outcome of the incident so devastating.

As a result, they led a protest to a nearby police station wrapping the corpse with the national flag.

Their main aim was to make sure KWS especially in the region bordering Tsavo East National Park gets to respond to matters to do with Human-wildlife conflict.

They made a few more demands that included being addressed by Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza as well as getting life out of the rogue elephant.

We are tired of rampant attacks by elephants. The government has turned a blind ear to the plight of farmers in this region,” Lamented one of the resident.

The body of the deceased was then transferred to Kibwezi Hospital mortuary awaiting for burial.
