Uber has announced partnership with Safaricom PLC to provide free internet data bundles to drivers, delivery partners, and riders using the Uber and Uber Eats apps across the Kenya.
Safaricom, in this agreement, has zero-rated the all the Uber apps to allow consumers of Uber services including merchants and mobility providers to freely access Uber services without incurring data charges.
This initiative has been taken, to counter a barrier to accessing all the Uber services by Uber subscribers.
According to survey done by Uber, lack of data bundles has deprived majority of Kenyans, the opportunity to use Uber services most especially in the regions where access to mobility of Uber Boda is very limited.
Imran Manji, Uber’s Head of East Africa, said this partnership therefore aims to bridge the gap to allow reliable and safe mobility across the country.
“Through this partnership with Safaricom, we can help bridge the gap in accessing data for many Kenyans, enabling them to access reliable and safe mobility,” he said.
