Spiro to Build First EV Assembly Plant in Nigeria

SPIRO electric mobility company plans to establish its first electric vehicle assembly facility in Ogun State, Nigeria, by March 2025.

The plant will target production of 100,000 electric bikes in Q1 2025, expanding from current output of 1,000 units, while introducing three-wheeler manufacturing and battery production to reduce dependency on Chinese imports, founded in 2019,Spiro operates on a unique battery-swapping model, offering riders convenient access to swap stations, fast and slow chargers, and home charging solutions. This flexible approach ensures the timely and convenient delivery of energy to customers.

The company’s expansion strategy includes deploying 140,000 EVs in Uganda and 1.2 million in Kenya through government partnerships, having already distributed 22,000 electric motorbikes across sub-Saharan Africa.

With $143 million in funding
secured and plans to enter Tanzania, Ghana, Cameroon, DRC, and Angola by 2025, Spiro will develop fast-charging infrastructure across Nigeria while implementing a battery-swapping model to
support its growing EV network.
