Raila Odinga’s AUC Bid Get A Boost After Two Presidents Endorse Him

President William Ruto has expressed confidence that Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has what it takes to champion the unity and progress of the African continent.

Speaking at the 4th edition of the Piny Luo Cultural Festival in Bondo, Siaya County, on Thursday, the President highlighted that Mr. Odinga’s candidature for the African Union Commission chairperson continues to garner tremendous support due to his proven track record as a pan-Africanist.

Ruto expressed belief that Mr. Odinga’s leadership would foster peace across the continent, effectively manage conflicts, and unlock the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.

“We are very confident that the successful bid of Hon. Raila will lead to positive changes for the future of our continent,” the President stated.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who was the chief guest at the event, also voiced support for Mr. Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship. He emphasized that those in positions of power across Africa have the authority to bring about meaningful change on the continent.

President Ruto reiterated his call for African integration, noting that territorial boundaries should not be barriers to trade and investment between countries. He stressed that nations must work together for the greater good of the continent.

“There cannot be a successful Kenya without a thriving East Africa,” he said

His views were echoed by President Museveni, who urged African countries to unite in purpose and work toward inclusive growth and shared prosperity. He also called for a revisitation of the continent’s historical priorities, including creating prosperity for the people, establishing strategic security against all threats, and promoting deeper integration across Africa.

In addition, President Ruto announced that the government would invest KSh100 million to build a fish landing site in Wichlum, Siaya County, to support the fishing community. He also officially opened the Nyang’oma Technical Training College Ramogi Campus, which will begin admitting students in January.

President Ruto commended counties for their role in preserving culture through festivals and celebrations.

“These borders do not have to be impediments to cooperation and working together,” Mr. Odinga remarked.

On his part, Mr. Odinga emphasized the need for African integration to facilitate the movement of people, goods, and services, promote cross-border trade, and foster inclusive growth. He called for the realization of the founding fathers’ vision of a united Africa, free from artificial borders.

Among the dignitaries present were Cabinet Secretaries Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) and Rebecca Miano (Tourism), along with other leaders.
