Raila Odinga AU Bid Questioned After His Silence On Abductions

South African journalist Sophie Makena has questioned Raila Odinga’s AU candidacy.

The former prime minister was endorsed as the candidate for Kenya by President William Ruto after the two agreed to work together shortly after the Gen Z demonstrations back in June last year. Ruto also offered him cabinet slots in the government in efforts to cool down the hot political tempers in the country. However, Kenyans expressed their disappointments to Mr. Odinga for betraying the Gen Z and deciding to work for the government.

According to her social media page on X, journalist Sophie Makena questioned Raila Odinga’s silence when the abductions are being conducted, yet he wants to lead Africa.”My question to Raila Odinga. You are campaigning for the position of the AU Commission Chair. Why must Africa consider you when your country can’t provide answers on the abduction cases in Kenya? You want to lead the continent when you are failing to lead in your own country. @mirriamp @StateHouseKenya” She tweeted.

Many Kenyans supported her by revealing Raila has been silent during the abductions and questioned his commitment to helping the continent. Sometimes last year, during a rally in Nyanza, Raila Odinga asked William Ruto to begin the investigations and jail the abductors.
