Treasury Principal Secretary Dr Chris Kiptoo has highlighted Nairobi’s growing importance as a global diplomatic centre following the inauguration of new United Nations offices and the groundbreaking ceremony for a new conference facility at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
In a post shared after the Africa Forward Summit 2026 in Nairobi, Dr Kiptoo said the United Nations continues to strengthen Nairobi’s position as a major centre for international diplomacy and cooperation.
“The United Nations continues to reinforce Nairobi’s position as a key global diplomatic hub and the only United Nations headquarters in Africa, reflecting Kenya’s growing role in advancing multilateral cooperation and global dialogue,” he said.
According to the Principal Secretary, the events were held on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit 2026 and brought together President Dr William Ruto and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres.

He further noted that the expansion of the UN campus in Nairobi reflects the importance of bringing the United Nations closer to the regions it serves. He said the move will also strengthen support for locally driven solutions across Africa.
