Mudavadi Launches Digital Hub to Enhance Economic Growth

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, on Monday December 9, launched a digital hub which aims to upscale economic growth through digital learning for the youth in Kakamega.

During the launching ceremony, Mudavadi mentioned the benefits that the youth from Kakamega are anticipating to tap in, including acquiring new digital skills through ICT education, that will open doors for them to secure employment opportunities.

This is the opportunity to use technology to expand our businesses. The world of opportunities is right here in your devices. I reiterate the government’s commitment to integrate technology with our education system. Our commitment is to upscale e-learning in all learning institutions,” he said.

Furthermore, he urged stakeholders to step in and install more digital infrastructure, to enable the government to succeed with it’s agenda of creating more job opportunities to the youth of this country, in this digital space.

On his part, Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa said that the launch of the hub will sort out digital illiteracy across the country, emphasizing on necessity to acquire digital information.

We need digital information in every superhighway. In fact ICT is managing to bridge the gap faster than we have ever imagined,” said Barasa.

Huawei Deputy CEO took pride on being part and parcel of digital transformation across the county, citing their commitment to bolster access to digital information on the sectors of health and education within the county and plans to further expand their operations countrywide.

Huawei provided smart screens, enhanced training and internet connectivity to the hubs.

A second hub was launched at the Shianda Polytechnic.

This has been made feasible through the Jitume programme, launched to provide access to digital skills to young people.

So far, according to the programme, about 450,000 jobs have been provided with the aim of employing 1 million young people
