Morocco: Nineteen Die After Consuming Toxic Alcohol

In the northern Moroccan city of Ksar el-Kebir, poisonous alcohol was consumed by at least 19 persons who later perished.

According to local media, many more patients were sent to the hospital in critical condition, with two of them receiving intensive care.

A guy, 48, has been detained in relation to the incident. About 50 litres of the alcohol are claimed to have been found in his store by police.

Although it is illegal to sell alcohol to Muslims in Morocco, it is frequently covertly offered in cafes and shops.

Eight individuals died after consuming poisoned alcohol in the northern Oriental region in August, while at least 20 people perished in a comparable occurrence in Oujda in eastern Morocco in July of last year.
