The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has canceled the 2024 KCSE results of 840 candidates due to exam malpractices. Additionally, results for 2,899 students have been withheld pending investigations, announced Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba during the official release of the results on January 9, 2025, at Mitihani House.
The Education CS assured the public that the investigations into the withheld results would be completed within 30 days, with final decisions expected by February 9.
Ogamba highlighted the involvement of 91 contracted professionals and teachers in facilitating irregularities, emphasizing that disciplinary actions will follow for those found culpable.
“The integrity of our national exams must be upheld. Firm action will be taken against all involved,” said Ogamba.
This year’s cases of malpractice reflect a decline compared to 2023, when 4,113 candidates were implicated. Notably, only four results were canceled over suspected impersonation this year, a significant improvement from past incidents.
KNEC CEO David Njengere noted that efforts to curb examination cheating, including heightened monitoring and the deployment of stricter measures, have contributed to the decline in malpractice cases.
The government remains committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in the examination process while holding accountable those who compromise its integrity.
