Kanini Kega Suspends The National Delegates Conference For Uhuru’s Jubilee

The notice of the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference issued by former President Uhuru Kenyatta last month has been suspended by EALA MP Kanini Kega.

Kega said in a statement on May 10 that Jubilee’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had approved the suspension of the NDC.

The notice stated, in part, “Take notice that the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) has suspended the notice for a Special National Delegates Conference published in the print media on April 29,”

According to Kega, the special NDC was convened without following the proper procedures. He said that while they work to revive the party, they will first purge the party registration to guarantee that only legitimate delegates take part in making crucial decisions.

“The other day you saw the former President Uhuru Kenyatta visiting the party headquarters accompanied by non-members, we want to have the right structures in place and have party members participate in our affairs, that is why I want a well-planned National Delegates Conference,” stated Kega.

The special NDC convened by party leader Uhuru, however, has not been canceled by Kega, according to Jubilee Secretary General and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, who also asserted that it will go ahead as scheduled because it had the backing of the majority of party members.

Kioni stated, “We are going to make certain decisions targeted at bringing the party to the next level. Our party leader Uhuru Kenyatta has convened a Special National Delegates Conference to be held on May 22 at the Bomas of Kenya. No one has the authority to reverse the decision he has taken.

This occurs shortly after the Kanini Kega faction called a conference and replaced Uhuru as the leader of the Jubilee Party with MP nominee Sabina Chege.
