Kakamega MPs Hold State House Talks with President Ruto Ahead of Planned Western Region Rally

A section of Members of Parliament from Kakamega County on Tuesday held a high-level consultative meeting with William Ruto at State House Nairobi in Nairobi, amid rising political activity in the Western region.According to sources familiar with the discussions, the meeting focused largely on development priorities within Kakamega County.

The MPs are said to have presented a range of concerns including stalled infrastructure projects, road upgrades, expansion of electricity connectivity, support for small-scale traders and farmers, and funding for youth and women empowerment programmes.

They reportedly sought clarity on budget allocations and timelines for the completion of ongoing national government projects in the county.President Ruto is understood to have reiterated the national government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions, assuring the leaders that key projects in Kakamega would receive attention.

The talks also touched on strengthening collaboration between national and county leadership to accelerate service delivery. The State House engagement comes just days before the planned Linda Mwananchi rally scheduled for next weekend in the Western region.

The rally is expected to draw political leaders and supporters, further intensifying the political spotlight on the area. Analysts view the timing of the meeting as significant, noting that Western Kenya has increasingly become a focal point of national political realignments and grassroots mobilisation. While neither the MPs nor State House explicitly linked the meeting to the upcoming rally, observers say such consultations often serve to consolidate alliances and address local concerns ahead of major political events.

The Western region, and Kakamega in particular, remains strategically important due to its sizeable voter base and influence in national politics.Political commentators suggest that the discussions may also signal efforts to strengthen working relationships between elected leaders from the region and the national executive, especially as the country moves closer to future electoral cycles.

Development delivery, they argue, remains a central issue shaping political loyalty at the grassroots level.Further details are expected once official statements are released by the MPs or the Presidency outlining specific resolutions from the State House meeting.
