HACO Advances Circular Economy with Mr. Green Africa

Kenya’s FMCG sector is taking measurable steps toward circular manufacturing following a strengthened collaboration between HACO Industries and Mr. Green Africa focused on post-consumer recyclate (PCR) collection and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) implementation. The initiative centers on improving the recovery of plastic packaging waste placed on the market by HACO.

Through an established aggregation and recycling network, Mr. Green Africa will collect and process post-consumer plastics, channeling them back into the production value chain as recycled material. The partnership supports compliance with Kenya’s evolving EPR framework, which requires producers to take greater responsibility for the lifecycle of their packaging.

By integrating structured take-back mechanisms, HACO aims to enhance waste accountability while reducing plastic leakage into the environment.According to HACO Managing Director Mary-Ann Musangi, embedding sustainability into core operations is increasingly becoming a business requirement rather than a voluntary effort.

The company views practical partnerships as critical to translating environmental commitments into trackable outcomes, including responsible production and improved resource efficiency. For Mr. Green Africa, collaboration with manufacturers plays a key role in scaling recycling infrastructure.

By guaranteeing demand for recycled materials, such partnerships strengthen the economics of plastic recovery while supporting both formal and informal waste collectors.

This helps create income opportunities and improve traceability across the plastics value chain.Beyond material recovery, the initiative contributes to broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.

These include promoting sustainable consumption patterns, strengthening recycling ecosystems, and supporting national efforts to reduce plastic pollution. The collaboration reflects a broader shift within Kenya’s manufacturing sector toward shared responsibility models where producers, recyclers, and communities work collectively to build regenerative systems that close the loop on plastic waste.
