The High Court has reportedly declined the request made earlier seeking to stop the Azimio countrywide anti-government mass protests that has since been led by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Justice Hedwig Ongundi also turned deaf ears to demands that High Court should issue orders to Inspector General police Japhet Koome to see all protesters and their front-liners arrested.
In the ruling that is a massive win for the opposition side, the court cited issue of separation of power saying it cannot guide two senior officers on how they should conduct their mandates.
The court noted:
“It would therefore not be proper for these courts to appear to be setting out new regulations and policies which is not within its docket.”
This comes after the lawyer representing former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko reasoned that the ongoing mass protests have adversely affected the normal operation of businesses countrywide, asking for orders to immediately stop the anti-government demonstrations.
