Dr. Peter Mbae has resigned as Head of the Government Delivery Services (GDS), citing unresolved concerns about working conditions in his office. In a letter dated January 9 to Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, Mbae stated that these challenges rendered his position untenable.
“Despite my passion and focus, the unresolved issues I consistently raised have made it impossible to fulfill my duties effectively,” he wrote, adding that he intends to pursue other interests.
Speaking to TheAfricanWatch.com, Mbae, a conflict resolution expert, confirmed his decision and expressed readiness to return to his professional career outside government.
Mbae served in several key roles before his GDS appointment. He was Head of Ministerial Programmes in the Ministry of Public Service and Delivery Management and Secretary for Investments Promotion at the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry. His tenure in these roles was marked by a commitment to implementing the Kenya Kwanza Government manifesto.
The GDS oversees national government projects, monitors flagship programs, and ensures timely delivery of development priorities. It also resolves bottlenecks in government projects and provides independent verification of progress at regional and county levels.
Mbae’s exit comes amid increasing speculation of internal government discontent. Recently, Public Service CS Justin Muturi criticized the government following his son’s abduction, further fueling concerns of unrest.
Mbae expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, stating, “I have always been driven by a genuine desire to achieve sustainable transformation in citizens’ lives.”
His resignation highlights growing tensions within the administration, sparking questions about the stability of key government functions.
