Protesters left many in shock in the CBD today as they held talks with police and security forces.
In a video that surfaced online, Nairobi Police Commandant Adamson Bungei is seen talking to the youths gathered in the CBD, who chanted, “We are peaceful.”
The youths took to the streets to protest what they term as bad governance and President William Ruto’s failure to listen to them and his inability to form a new cabinet.
Initially, the protesters had stated that they would occupy Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and cause disruption, accusing the former cabinet secretaries of Roads and Transport Kipchumba Murkomen of auctioning public facilities.
Police were deployed to the airport to calm the situation but were shocked when a group emerged in the Nairobi Central District, leading to Bungei engaging them in talks.
The police have stated that there will be no demonstrations within the restricted area and that police will be present to protect these zones.Elsewhere, goons who had come out to patrol the city were met by angry youths.
Two of the goons were beaten up, and their motorcycles were burnt by the youths, who accused them of infiltrating their peaceful protests.
