Political analyst Herman Manyora has provided analysis on the current discussions between Kenyan President William Ruto and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo acting as a mediator. The talks, which have sparked significant intrigue, were largely conducted behind closed doors, leading to widespread speculation.
Manyora theorizes that Obasanjo’s role could be the result of international pressure and may reflect broader international interests. Notably, he emphasized the former Nigerian President’s reputation and experience which add credibility to his mediation efforts, drawing a contrast with Tanzanian President Samia Suluh, whose intervention might not have been taken as seriously.
Reminiscent of the crisis situation in 2007, Manyora drew comparisons with Koffi Annan’s successful mediation between then Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga. Noting that renowned global figures often stimulate progress in political disputes, he suggested that Obasanjo’s involvement could foster cooperation and constructive dialogue between Ruto and Odinga.
