Langata member of parliament Phelix Odiwuor best known as Jalang’o is the most followed influencer by Millennials and Gen Zs. Gen Zs are ‘internet babies’ born between late 90s and the year 2012 while millennial are individuals born between early 90s to late 90s.
According to a new report on consumer trends Jalang’o topped the list with 27% followers who admitted that indeed the Influencer’s lifestyle, family, brand and fashion influenced them in terms of decision making. The MP was followed by Churchill while Eric Omondi came third and Akothee fourth. The report also indicated that the millennials mostly who follow Jalang’o are mostly from Nyanza and Eastern Kenya.
“Nine in every 10 (93%) of the surveyed millennials and Gen Zs believe that the influencers they follow influence them. Of these, 27% mentioned Jalango, another 24% mentioned Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill) whereas 22% mentioned Eric Omondi as their top influencers,” stated the report.
Churchill’s followers are mostly from Central and Coast, whereas Eric Omondi’s are from Northeastern and Coast. Akothee’s followers are mostly from Nairobi and Nyanza.
The report indicated that 44 per cent of millennials and Gen Z spend more than four hours a day on social media, which is more than triple the number they spend on traditional media i.e radio(13 per cent) and TV(12 per cent).
Influencers have always been considered role models in the realms of social media .They also create awareness about brands through their various platforms. Jalang’o’s lifestyle and journey as an influencer is a gen Zs typical kind of a life worth drawing inspiration from owing to the fact that Gen Zs and millennials have been ranked the most ambitious and success driven generation.
