After The VC’s Dismissal Controversy, Machogu Names A New Meru University Council

The council has been changed two days following a dispute over the suspension of Romanus Odhiambo, vice chancellor of Meru University.

The new council members were named in a gazette notice by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, who took office on March 10. According to subsection, Jane Kiringai will serve as the council’s chairman for three years, according to the announcement.

Janet Afandi Ominde, Martin Kinoti, Jacob Kwaba, Lucy Rimanto Ndonket, and Sylvester Kibbiwott Kinyor are additional newly appointed council members. Former council chair Bosire Mwebi, who oversaw the suspension of VC Odhiambo on February 27, is replaced by Kiringai.

Muriira M’Mbwiria, Stephen Kimani, Dick Waswa, Pauline Jeruto, Naomi Kipuri, Paul Mungai, and Damaris Nyasuguta are replaced by the new council (Treasury). The council’s term ended on March 7, according to Machogu, in two days.

The tenure of the council expires on March 9. The ministry is taking the appropriate actions to form a replacement council, according to a statement from Machogu.

Machogu ordered the Bosire Mwebi-led council to reinstate Odhiambo prior to their dismissal, claiming that his suspension was the result of ulterior motives. In order to designate an acting vice chancellor, Machogu stated, “The government urges the university council to revoke the decision to send Odhiambo on terminal leave.

Machogu directed that the council ensures the embattled VC resumes his duties.

“The university council is directed to facilitate the resumption of Odhiambo as VC with immediate effect, in any case before the closure of business on March,7,” he said.
